Students can keep their wallets and stomachs full with a new text platform sponsored by Tiger Dining.
Tiger Dining and Aramark have teamed up in an effort to get students more involved in their dining experience.
By texting TIGERS to 65374, students will be sent information about Tiger Dining events on campus and exclusive dining deals, such as buy one slice of pizza, get one free.
The text club is free, and students can choose to stop the texts at any time.
Similar programs were started last year at other schools in the area as a way to use more than social media to engage students, but Tiger Dining didn’t start publicizing the Tigers Text Club until this year. Last year, the texts were used to provide information and did not offer any deals.
“This year we are hoping to make it exclusive,” said Amy Rogan, Tiger Dining graphic designer. “Hopefully we can have really big deals going on.”
Last week a text reminded club members that Cinnabons are now available for a limited time at the Burger King Whopper Bar in the University Center. Another, sent around lunchtime, invited members to “create a marvelous personal pizza” at Topio’s to show their “inner Italian.”
Through the text club, students not only get alerts but also are able to reply back with questions, compliments or complaints about Tiger Dining.
“Some students don’t have Facebook, some students don’t check their email, but they are always on their phone. They are always texting,” said Sean Armstrong, Tiger Dining marketing manager.
Armstrong and Rogan said they are “keeping up with the times” by starting the text club. They want to “turn heads” and have students recognize Tiger Dining.
“You are always bombarded with signage everywhere and you may not notice it,” Rogan said.
With the text club, Tiger Dining representatives hope to show students that they are innovative and “in line with the trends,” Armstrong said. They want to keep students “in the know.”
Junior Joey Clark found out about the Tigers Text Club on Facebook and joined at the beginning of this semester.
“It said that I could get special deals, so I signed up for it,” Clark said.
Rogan said the Tigers Text Club was also started to “drive [students] to try different dining locations.”
“It’s good to know about events happening on campus,” Clark said. “I’m always on my phone.”
The Tigers Text Club currently has about 300 members. They have started sending texts about Tiger Dining events, and Rogan said they would begin sending promotional deals in October.
