Students can get a free lunch and learn the do’s and don’ts of a career fair Wednesday.
The University of Memphis’ Career Services will be having a “Lunch and Learn” titled “How to Work a Career Fair.” The workshop will be in the University Center Bluff Room at 12:30 p.m., and a free lunch will be provided.
Clay Woemmel, associate director of career and employment services at the U of M, said the workshop is supposed to “give students some tips and strategies to help them be successful at the Career and Internship Expo.”
The expo will be Sept. 25 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the UC Ballroom.
Eddie Jones, human resources recruitment specialist for Shelby County Schools, will be the speaker at this week’s workshop. Jones received his bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate degree from the U of M.
“It is an honor to be asked to come back to [my] alma mater to present to students of this generation the knowledge I’ve gained,” Jones said.
Jones was first asked to present at the University’s “Lunch and Learn” series last year when he gave students tips on “wise decisions with regards to finding a job.” However, he said he “expects to have fun with this topic” because he will be discussing the “P’s to a successful career fair.”
“This is a topic that is near and dear to my current job responsibilities as a recruiter for Shelby County Schools,” Jones said. “I see a lot of students that come to career fairs unprepared and [I] hope to impart that knowledge on students that attend the session Wednesday.”
